Matthews predicament is some kind of justice.

Last Wednesday, President Trump spoke to the nation about the coronavirus and he was actually presidential, exhibiting the patient leadership needed right now. In contrast, most of the gathered media lobbed gotcha questions while CNN and MSNBC scrolled red-ink stock indices across the bottom of your TV screen. Across town and on the debate stage, Democrats accused the president of doing too little too late.

How is it that liberals haven’t noticed the fate of Trump Derangement Syndrome? Because, while we the people look for reassurance or helpful medical information, way too many Democrat politicians are looking to advance their political gain at Trump’s expense. The President rightly called this fear-mongering a “hoax.” Even NBC’s Saturday Night Live dumped scorn on Democrats: a parody of candidates interrupting a Pence press conference on the coronavirus. Bad form, old fellows.

There is a pattern here, that began with Hillary Clinton’s behavior after losing to candidate Trump. For three years, she has waged a face-saving campaign because she (gasp!) lost to that man. To be sure, she is mostly an embarrassment, but I believe she is probably living in a personal hell. It is obvious her state of mind ran into Trump – and she lost it!

What about James Comey and John Brennan? Both felt safe poking the bear by coordinating the Steele Dossier attack on Trump (sharing with Obama and Trump, and leaking it to the press). Comey lost his job as FBI director, and Brennan lost his national security clearance. Having lost their “insider” status, they are now mere know-nothings quacking about the president on CNN and MSNBC – and being investigated by John Durham and other DOJ lawyers. Stay tuned.

What about Senators Al Franken (D-MN) and Kamala Harris (D-CA), who became media darlings by badgering and smearing Trump nominees? Al Franken was in early on the sexist Trump attacks, while Harris accused Jeff Sessions (R-AL) of being a racist in his confirmation hearings. It’s poetic justice that one sexist photograph and numerous #MeToo stories shamed Franken right out of DC. And, the irony of Harris smearing fellow Democrat Joe Biden as a racist and sinking in the polls two weeks later must be some kind of lesson.

How about anti-Trump pundits Michael Avenetti (CNN) and Chris Matthews (MSNBC)? The creepy porn lawyer Avenetti used his Stormy Daniels’ fame to grasp air time on CNN as an in-the-know Trump antagonist. Turns out he was not so altruistic – and he’s now serving jail time. Matthews also enjoined the Trump character attacks (after Charlottesville in particular) – and now MSNBC has made him apologize for anti-Semitic comments and sidelined him for alleged sexist behavior.

My point is to beware the morality plays that unfold every day – regardless of your political affiliation. Neither Bill Clinton nor Donald Trump are moral beacons, but both will go down as pretty effective presidents. And, even though neither has anything good to say about the other, they agree electoral votes do reflect the will of the people and impeachment must be bipartisan. Hmm – isn’t it obvious that playing King of the Morality Hill is a lesson in what goes around comes around?
