Of all inalienable rights, the Right To Life is paramount. To paraphrase Trey Gowdy (R-SC), what good’s your right to speech if you’re dead? And, in this year of extraordinary social disruption, Democrats might learn what most Republicans already know: the governed shouldn’t completely entrust the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to the governors.
Most Americans believe (a) George Floyd suffered a cruel and unusual death, but (b) his lost life ignited cruel and unusual attacks upon persons and property that (c) the government has a duty to protect. Because, while 65% of Americans think Chauvin murdered Floyd, 72% think violent protests are the wrong response and 65% think de-funding police is wrong (sources: YouGov and Reuters/Ipsos). Evidence that most Americans used common sense to respond, right?
In 2020, COVID-19 and non-stop violence provided all the evidence a moral majority in America needs to know so-called progressives won’t protect we the people:
- Rising murders in US cities mean more citizens were denied the right to LIFE. In New York City alone, shootings in 2020 have increased to 634 from 394 the year before. Yet, Mayor De Blasio (D-NY) cancelled 1,000 new cops this summer.
- The mayor of Los Angeles announced on Wednesday the cut-off of power and water to homes hosting “large parties.” The people’s right to gather is a tenet of LIBERTY that shouldn’t result in thirst and darkness.
- Drive downtown in any major city to see plywood storefronts on businesses, many with “black owned” emblazoned in hopes Black Bloc vandals will spare their PURSUIT OF (financial) HAPPINESS. No such luck.
The failure of Democrat governors and mayors to provide law and order has created millions of new gun owners (40% women). 2020 gun sales have averaged 1.8 million per month, but the FBI provided 3.6 million July background checks. And, why have gun sales to black citizens increased 58.2%, a new high (source: NSSF)? Simple: a loyal voting bloc is losing faith in the skill and will of Democrats to protect.
Many blue-collar Democrats own guns and one in Michigan asked Joe Biden if he was “going to take away our guns.” That real question got a non-answer: “You’re full of sh*t!” Non-answers pour from Democrat mayors, who blame guns – not anarchy – for the spike in blue-city murders. In a really futile and stupid gesture, the New York AG is suing to dissolve the NRA. In fairness, the NRA is not angelic, but the group is not behind the current spike in gun sales.
More Americans want guns because more Americans are scared, after Democrat mayors gave arsonists and car-smashers the keys to their cities, and social-media feeds showed thugs beating the crap out of shop owners (watch). This summer feels like a tipping point, right? When law-abiding citizens finally realize Democrat mayors won’t disarm Antifa or protect private property from angry mobs. Mark it down: the right to bear arms shifts from conservative talking point to common sense in 2020.
