According the mainstream media, if the presidential election were held today, Joe Biden would win going away. Isn’t that special? Five months out, and I don’t have to bother voting – – except I think I read somewhere it’s my patriotic duty. I have been closely following presidential elections since 1968 and wouldn’t bet a dollar on the Bidens moving into the White House. You might ask yourself, why is that?
The answer must begin with the candidate, Joe Biden, himself. He is the worst public speaker of the modern-candidate era (Dan Quayle came close). How much “the fact of the matter is” or “point one” or “number two” or “another thing” or “here’s the deal” or “look, pal” or “quite frankly” or “I tell you what” brain flatulence can an electorate take? Even worse are his brain-freeze interviews, when he drifts off into the mumbly-bumbly ozone.
Even his media allies won’t be able to help him through the debates, where President Trump is never at a loss for words. Even suburban soccer moms will be unnerved by Biden’s memory lapses, especially after Trump calls attention to it in real time and creates embarrassing soundbites to bombard swing-state TVs. Plus, Biden can’t dig at Trump’s money or woman scandals because of Biden-Burisma and Tara Reade.
There are also the relative strengths of the ground games. The RNC has a data base and neighbor network that could compete with Obama’s apparatus (even if liberal news outlets don’t think it’s newsworthy). Trump holds a voter enthusiasm lead. The Washington Post reports 84% of Republicans approve of Trump during these dog days of the campaign. Biden only received 42% of the Democrat primary vote, compared to Hillary Clinton with 56% and Al Gore with 70% (and they lost the general election).
Trump’s overall approval sank after George Floyd’s death, but those numbers will change in November for two reasons. First, public opinion polls skew left on humanity and sympathy issues. Right now, everyone is angry at law and order voices (Trump was that) and afraid to appear non-sympathetic. Second, it’s just a fact that riots alienate the moral majority, who will vote against cancel culture chaos. Plus, most moderate voters will not blame Trump for the lawless riots.
I can report from my business perch that states are re-opening to robust retail sales. Our customers report the pent-up demand the President predicted, meaning the Republican should have the economy at his back (and look prescient). Polls already reflect a majority of Americans think Biden cannot manage the economy as well as Trump. If minority jobs bounce back to pre-COVID levels, stick a fork in Biden.
Stop reading the media prognostication and polls that over-weight Democrats. This week, the legacy media have Biden leading Trump by 1-4 points in six battleground states (AZ, FL, MI, NC, PA and WI); with an error margin of +/- 3 points. If it feels like deja vu, you’re not mistaken. The gonzo left tried propaganda to elect Hillary, Crossfire Hurricane, Mueller, and impeachment. Smell the fear.
